Artifacts

Artifacts holds what your employees deliver, and documents you write yourself. Every change is a new version; old versions never change.

What lands in Artifacts#

Each task’s deliverable is stored here as a Markdown document, versioned: a revision of the task makes its next version. Documents you write yourself sit beside them. Files a task kept, such as images or PDFs, stay in its record under Files.

Finding documents#

Show All, By employees or By you, or Find a document by name. Waiting for you lists documents whose task waits for you; Recent lists the rest, newest first, with who wrote the current version and when. A deliverable also opens from its task’s record with Open in Artifacts, and search (⌘K) finds artifacts by name.

Reading a document#

  • The version menu picks any version. Every version is locked: “Can’t be changed”.
  • Citation chips such as [S1] open the source they quote; the Sources list Royak added ends the document.
  • Pin to the rail keeps it one click away; Copy link to this version links to exactly this version; .md downloads it as Markdown.
  • The header says who wrote it, their department and the task it came from, such as “from task KS-131”.
NoteRoyak draws each document’s headings, lists, tables and links itself, never as web code, so nothing in a document can run in your browser.

Comparing versions#

Compare with v3 (the version before) shows what changed: “From v3 to v4: 12 lines added, 4 removed”, added lines green with +, removed lines red with −, and in a changed line the words that changed. Compared with picks another version, and Stop comparing goes back to reading.

Depends on and Used by#

Depends on lists the sources and documents this version was built from, each at the exact version it used, and Made by the task that wrote it. Used by lists documents built on this one.

When something it depends on has a newer version, it says so (“Pinned to v2 · v3 is newer”) with Update: for a document you wrote, it opens Edit with that dependency moved to the current version; for an employee’s, it opens the task, where you can ask for a revision.

CarefulIf a source a version depends on is replaced, revoked or deleted, that version can no longer be read, and the document says why.

Writing your own#

  1. 1

    Start a document

Select New document, or Edit as v5 on a document to start from the version shown.

  2. 2

    Write and link

Write in Markdown and add up to 16 sources or documents it depends on, each at an exact version.

  3. 3

    Save

Saving makes a new version that can’t be changed. Earlier versions stay as they were.

Questions#

Can I change an employee’s deliverable?

Not in place. Edit as saves your changes as the next version, or ask the employee for a revision from the task’s record.

Can I share a document outside the company?

There is no public link. Download it with .md and send it yourself.

Can an old version change later?

No. Versions never change. A version only becomes unreadable when a source it depends on is replaced, revoked or deleted.
