Pause the company
Pause stops every employee at the next safe point. Nothing is sent or spent until you resume, and work continues from the same step.
- You are the company’s owner: only the owner can pause or resume.

What a pause does#
A pause holds work, it doesn’t throw it away. Each running task stops at its next safe point and remembers where it was; resuming picks it up from that same step. You can pause the whole company, one employee or one task.
| While the company is paused | What happens |
|---|---|
| Running work | Stops at the next safe point. A call already sent finishes and is charged. |
| New and queued work | Waits; nothing starts. |
| Routines | Don’t start. |
| Questions and approvals | Stay in the Inbox. You can still answer and decide them. |
| Actions you approve | Wait with Resume to send, and go out after you resume. |
| Chat | Its AI calls stop too. |
Pause everything#
- 1
Open the pause
Select Pause the company at the bottom left of the Office floor, or Pause the whole company… in Settings → General.
- 2
Check what stops
The dialog lists who stops mid-step, the routines that won’t start, and what still needs you.
- 3
Confirm
Select Pause the company.
While paused, a banner says how many tasks stopped mid-step, the foot of the floor shows how long (“Company paused · 4 min”), the lights go low with PAUSED across your office, and held employees lean back behind covered screens. Anyone waiting for you, and anyone whose work failed, keeps their marker. Other members see the paused state but not the controls.
Resume#
Select Resume in the banner, or Resume the whole company in Settings. Work continues from the step where it stopped, and actions you approved while paused are sent then. A task or employee you paused on its own stays paused until you resume it too.
Pause one employee or one task#
| Pause | How |
|---|---|
| One employee | Pause {name} at the foot of their inspector, then Pause now. They stop at once, even mid-step; requests already waiting stay in the Inbox. Resume {name} on their Now tab. |
| One task | Pause at the foot of the task’s record. It reads Pause requested until the work reaches a safe point, then Paused. Resume continues it. |
To stop a task for good, use Cancel task… in its record instead. A call under way finishes and its cost stays recorded; tasks waiting on it won’t start.
