Budgets and spending limits
Royak reserves the cost of every AI call before it is made, so work stops and asks rather than overspend. On your plan’s credits, the credits are the limit. With your own model key on Paid, you also set money limits for the company, each department and each employee.
- Money limits need Paid with your own model key in use; see Your own AI key.
- You are the owner or a finance admin to set limits.

How spending is checked#
Before each AI call, and each paid action such as web browsing, Royak reserves the most it can cost against every limit that applies. After the call it settles to the real cost and releases the rest. If the call wouldn’t fit, it isn’t made: the task waits instead.
When a call’s outcome is unknown, its cost stays reserved rather than freed, so a limit is never passed on a guess.
Credits or money#
| When… | The limit is… |
|---|---|
| You are on Free | Your monthly credits. Every amount reads in credits. |
| You are on Paid with no key of your own in use | Your monthly credits, as on Free. |
| You are on Paid and your own key pays | The money limits you set, in US dollars. |
Whatever pays, a goal, plan, table batch or step test also has its own budget, set when you start it, which caps that work.
On your plan’s credits#
Your credits pay for AI work and are its spending limit. Usage counts in credits, and there are no money limits to set and no limit raises. When the month’s credits run out, work waits until they renew on the 1st, or on Paid until you add your own key; see When credits run out.
Money limits you saved earlier are kept but bind nothing on credits. They apply again once your own key pays.
Money limits with your own key#
| Limit of | Where to set it |
|---|---|
| The company | Settings → General → Spending: a Monthly limit and an optional Daily safety cap. |
| A department or an employee | Usage → Edit limits, chosen under Limits of. |
| A goal, plan or table batch | Its own budget, when you start it. |
- 1
Open Edit limits
On Usage, select Edit limits.
- 2
Choose whose limits
Under Limits of, pick the company, a department or an employee.
- 3
Set the amounts
Enter the Monthly limit (USD) and, if you want one, the Daily cap (USD, optional). The daily cap can never be more than the month’s limit.
- 4
Narrow what they may use, if you like
Pick Allowed models and Allowed paid actions, such as the web browser, and set tool calls a day and calls at once.
- 5
Save
Select Save limits. “Limits saved” confirms it. Saving starts no AI call.
Every limit applies at once, so the tightest one decides. Months follow UTC and start again on the 1st; daily caps reset at midnight UTC.
When a limit is reached#
With money limits, a task that reaches one waits and asks you to raise exactly that limit. A Limit raise appears in your Inbox and on Usage under the requests to raise a limit, such as “Mira Petrova reached Sales’s monthly limit of $200 and asks to raise it to $400 until Dec 1”. It suggests twice the current limit, or what the task needs if that is more.
Select Approve raise and the same work continues; Decline ends it. An approved raise applies only to that limit, until the end of the next day, or for a monthly limit until the month ends if that is later. Your saved limit itself never changes.
The owner and finance admins decide any raise; an approver decides raises up to the amount the owner set for them.
Operator limits#
Royak’s operator also sets limits for the whole platform and an allowance for each company, such as the models it allows. Yours only narrow them, and a raise never goes past them. Edit limits shows the company’s allowance under a disclosure.
When paid calls can’t start at all, Usage shows Spending blocked with the reason you can act on. When only a department’s, employee’s, goal’s or task’s own limit blocks, it says Some spending is blocked.
The Usage page#
- Spent this month against the company’s monthly limit, the Forecast at month end, Tasks finished and Average cost per task, each beside the month before.
- Daily spend, a bar for each UTC day, with Table view for the numbers.
- Departments with their spend and limit (On track, Near limit from 80%, At limit), and Top spenders.
- Limits, your plan and its limits, and every call with its model, state, amount and Paid with: The plan’s credits, Your own key or The platform’s key.
The owner and finance admins see Usage; approvers and viewers don’t.
Questions#
Can spending ever go over a limit?
No. The most a call can cost is reserved before it starts, and a call that doesn’t fit isn’t made.
Why can’t I set a money limit?
Your AI runs on your plan’s credits, which are the limit. Money limits appear once your own key pays, on Paid.
Does a raise change my saved limit?
No. It lifts that one limit until it ends, then your saved limit applies again.
What happens to a task if I decline a raise?
It ends with the limit reached. Its timeline shows what it did and spent until then.
Does a daily cap reset at my midnight?
No. Days and months follow UTC.
